Being selected to deliver your party’s response to a presidential address to Congress is often viewed as a no-win proposition. Bobby Jindal’s uncomfortable delivery, Marco Rubio’s water bottle, and, most recently, Katie Britt’s… whatever the hell that was, are just a few examples of the many times in which it just didn’t land.

For that reason my expectations were quite low when my own freshman senator, Elissa Slotkin from the great state of Michigan, was selected to deliver the Democratic Party’s response to Donald Trump’s address Tuesday night.
